There I am: on the waterfront, camera on tripod, looking for the world on the dividing line between above and below water. Then up again - then under water again. A fascinating world. This is, symbolically speaking, a familiar place to me, an area where I feel at ease. The more I come 'above water' - I see exhibiting as coming above water - the more I long for that other side, under water. The eternal duality.
Is that why my underwater camera, which has been waiting for me for a while, suddenly attracts like this? Well, it's not the camera that attracts, that's just a means, it's the water that pulls. These days I read that water (also) symbolizes 'movement and life energy' and that 'water leads you to the future you long for.'
Like a fisherman with his rod, I gently bring the camera into the water. The plants move gently under the water and my camera sees it. And I move along. From under water I slowly move upwards.
From behind the camera to in front of the camera. Suddenly I see the parallel. Is that my way? Is that my desire? Perhaps.
My 'home' is and remains behind the camera, 'under water'. And every now and then I move to the world 'above water', the world in front of the camera. Creating images behind the camera is my passion, my love. Sharing, showing, presenting and discussing my work is my second love. Because it is precisely the latter that provides nourishment and energy for subsequent creations.
Carefully I take the camera out of the water, full of energy and curious about what my camera has seen, I cycle home!
