“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”— Maya Angelou
2022 is already a month old and yet, to me it feels like, for several reasons, the new year is really about to start. Perhaps also the start of a beautiful tradition: starting the new year in February; January is always a struggle for me.
Looking back on 2021, the above statement by Maya Angelou (poet and writer) came by. And it couldn't be more appropriate, because my last year was overflowing with creativity. And not least because of the annual program I followed with Doug Chinnery and Valda Bailey. For a year I followed a program that was full of creativity. It was incredibly inspiring, intense and intensive. They have inspired me with just about everything that has to do with art and creativity.
And with all this creative luggage my 2022 begins.
How wonderful is it that I have been invited this month to work with all those creative ideas as Artist in Residence on Ameland! Together with 4 other artists, we immerse ourselves in the arts for a week. Playing, working, discovering new techniques, inspiring each other, without distraction other than the sea and the dunes. I'm really looking forward to it!
Because in the midst of 'normal' life, I don't always find it easy to keep the focus on what is needed or what I need. And then a week off grid, as it is so beautifully called, is a relief, a gift! To afterwards continue the year with a full backpack and take out what fits or is needed at that moment.
Perhaps you recognize the above: that you are overflowing with creative ideas and think what next? Or, how do I combine the ideas, how do I find my way around them? I'd love to hear from you if you want to have a chat, you are most welcome and I look forward to your response!
