the arts and public space are inseparable
it is the perception that determines time
Out of concern and discomfort, but mostly driven by curiosity, Jaap Jepma and me, entered the Frisian landscape with camera and notepad and several landscape experts. The Frisian landscape that, about a decade ago, was declared the most beautiful in the Netherlands. That creates obligations, you might say, and the task of preserving, restoring, strengthening, experiencing and developing with loving pride. But are we doing so? Are plans being made in this province to look to the future from historical core qualities? Does the love for the landscape hold a beckoning perspective to also be able and willing to design for the future? Or do we have so many developments at the same time that it is almost an impossible task to maintain a coherent and recognisable whole of it? The book Time vanishes from the landscape can contribute to an important conversation about our landscape and what choices are needed in it in the coming years.
